  4. 1.   This ZIP file contains the shareware version of Versamap 2.03.
  5.  
  6.      Versamap 2.03 is a Windows 3.1 program.  It can also be
  7.      installed and run under Windows 95/98/NT(4.0).  If you find
  8.      Versamap unsatisfactory, the program includes an uninstall
  9.      option that allows you to remove Versamap from your hard
  10.      drive.

  12.      To encourage registration, this shareware version has 1
  13.      limitation not found in the registered version.  In the
  14.      shareware version, maps can only be annotated with fixed pitch
  15.      fonts.  The registered version allows users to add text to
  16.      maps in both proportional (such as Arial or Times New Roman)
  17.      and fixed pitch (such as Courier New) fonts.

  20. 2.   Versamap draws outline maps on 14 map projections.  Digital
  21.      maps supplied with Versamap include boundaries for the new
  22.      countries formed from the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, for
  23.      Eritrea, for Canadian Provinces, and for Australian States. 
  24.      Versamap plots maps from World Data Bank II and from the U.S.
  25.      Geological Survey's Digital Line Graph database.  Maps can be
  26.      output directly to a printer; or exported as BMP, WMF, CGM,
  27.      DXF, PIC, or ASCII files.  Text may be added to maps using any
  28.      Windows font.  New features in version 2.03 include rotated
  29.      text in 1 degree increments, high quality printer output,
  30.      Windows metafile (WMF) output.

  33. 3.   To install Versamap,
  34.  
  35.      a.   create a temporary directory (i.e. C:\JUNK) on your hard
  36.           drive;
  37.  
  38.      b.   unzip this ZIP file in the temporary directory;
  39.  
  40.      c.   click on the File menu in the Program Manager (Windows
  41.           3.1), or click on the Start menu (Windows 95);
  42.  
  43.      d.   select the Run option;
  44.  
  45.      e.   in the edit box, type C:\JUNK\SETUP, where JUNK is the
  46.           name of your temporary directory;
  47.  
  48.      f.   follow the installation instructions displayed on the
  49.           screen.

  51.      g.   Installation of Versamap requires 4 million bytes of free
  52.           disk space.
  53.  
  54.      h.   Once Versamap is installed you may delete the contents of
  55.           directory C:\JUNK.

  58. 4.   Registration of Versamap is $20 (plus $5 air mail postage to
  59.      countries other than the United States or Canada) for which
  60.      you will receive:
  61.  
  62.      a.   a copy of the most recent version of the program;
  63.  
  64.      b.   additional digital maps, including a 38,000 point world
  65.           map;
  66.  
  67.      c.   a digital gazetteer containing the names and locations of
  68.           over 600 major world cities;
  69.  
  70.      d.   a digital instruction manual, containing many figures,
  71.           that can be viewed and printed from Windows Write or
  72.           WordPad;
  73.  
  74.      e.   the opportunity to order more detailed digital map files
  75.           from the Versamap Micro World Database, from World Data
  76.           Bank II, and from the U.S. Geological Survey's Digital
  77.           Line Graph database.

  79.      Registration entitles you to support by mail, telephone, and
  80.      electronic mail, concerning problems you encounter with
  81.      Versamap.  A registration form is included in the file
  82.      REGISTER.WRI.
